QNAP Initialize storage space

After adding disks:

Step 1 - create storage pool

  • Storage Manager
  • "New Storage Pool"
  • Select all disks
  • Select RAID 6, Next

  • Turn off snapshot reserved space
  • Create, OK to delete data

Step 2 - Create new volume

Select storage pool, Create, New Volume

Choose Thick Multiple Volume (for some reason Static Single VOlume does not work).

(3) Set the volume to max

(4) Choose a volume name.

DataA  = main storage, DataB = backup; DataA1, DataA2, etc. for each expansion unit.

(5) To allow for large volumes, select "File system option"

(6) Set "Bytes per inode" to the maximum (65536).

(7) Create a shared folder with the same name.

(8) Next, OK to warning, Finish

Initialization will take a few minutes (see progress under "Storage Space" in Storage Manager)
