Updating Freesurfer

Google "freesurfer download" or "freesurfer patches" - download and install for new, patches for updating

Download the Linux CentOS version (CentOS is equivalent to RedHat Linux)

For patches, choose the version that matches your current software version. For example, if you have FreeSurfer 5.3.2 and want to update to 5.3.3, choose a patch that is either ... 5.3.x to 5.3.3, or 5.3.2 to 5.3.3.

Copy the file to LinuxShare. 

From inside the Linux VM, move the file to the /usr/local folder

Open a terminal in that folder

Run tar on the file:

$] tar -xvzf freesurfer-Linux-centos6_x86_64-stable-pub-v.....tar.gz
