GPS logger

GPS logger

I've spent a lot of time looking for GPS options, and right now the best (short of something to add on the camera) for me is the Tripmate 850. I also own the Holux m241, and I've used a phone app (Geotag Photos Pro). The Holux does not have enough memory, so I have to worry about stopping and starting it. The phone uses a lot of battery, so when I'm doing a hiking trip that's a problem. The tripmate has a microSD slot, so I put in a 2GB card and never have to worry about space, even if I track at 15 second intervals for a two week trip. It takes 2 AAA batteries, so I carry a bunch of rechargeables. Good quality rechargeables (I use Eneloop) last a day in continuous logging. Finally, in Lighroom I use Jeffrey Friedl's geoencoding plugin, which (after a little setup) reads the Tripmate files.

Now the Tripmate menu is a disaster, very confusing, so you'll have to take time to figure it out.... they provide a menu guide, which I suggest keeping. However, I have looked far and wide, and it's the only product I've found that can log all day and uses AA or AAA batteries (as opposed to something built-in).
