UCLA Home Use

Greetings UCLA MCCA Contacts,

Under the new MCCA agreement, the Microsoft Home Use Program now relies on O365 Pro Plus assignments via the M365 A3/A5 licenses that were purchased for the 7/1/18 – 6/30/19 MCCA term.

Microsoft Office 365 must be assigned to the end users by the Office 365 Administrator for each department.  Note: your department must have implemented Office 365 for this to work. Once assigned, the end user will need to log in to the Office 365 portal using their UCLA email address, and download the software to their devices.  Each MCCA M365 licensee can download and use the products on up to five Operating systems, including computers, smartphones and tablets.

Here are the directions that you can share with your departmental Microsoft M365 A3 and A5 licensees to use after the Online Administrator has assigned them the license:

To Install MCCA Home Use Apps

  1. From the device you want to install Office/Apps on, navigate to ‘portal.office365.com’.  You will be redirected to a screen with a Microsoft logo and a Sign in request
  2. Sign in as follows: UCLA User Principal Name (UPN) this is your email user name in the format username@ad.ucla.edu.
  3. Click on Next. This will redirect you to a window that shows ‘Redirecting to your Organization’s Sign In Page’.  You will arrive at the UCLA Office 365 page.

  1. When you have logged on at the top of the browser windows is the nav bar of Office 365. On the far left hand side is the app launcher ( nine dots ) on the far right there are 4 icons, notifications ( bell ), settings (gear), help (?) and your account icon ( last, first name initials, or your picture).

  1. There are multiple ways to install the software. The easiest way is to click on the settings icon (gear icon) and click on ‘Software’. This takes you to the Office install page.

  1. Alternately you can install software by going to your account icon and go to ‘My account’. On My account you can initiate an install by clicking on ‘Install status’ or manage the installs by clicking on ‘Manage installs’.

Please note, Software Central is unable to troubleshoot individual’s login issues to the UCLA Office365 Portal. Please use the links on the UCLA Office 365 Portal page to get more information or change your EM Office 365 password. Contact your local IT support personnel for additional assistance.

Thank you,

Suzanne Stinson
