Database connection issues

If you edit local settings (CSPM → Options → Local settings), but it won't save them, that could either mean there are two files with the settings, or that the file is read-only and nothing gets saved. The file where the local settings are saved is 

matlab\spm12\toolbox\cspm_local.mat

Check that the file is being updated when you change anything in the GUI. If not, check the permissions of the cspm_local.mat file, and un-check read-only.
